Award Winning Educator

Over the past few years, I have traveled across the state and nation to experience and advocate for education from many different angles. Being an advocate for education is my passion, and I've been spreading the good word every chance I get. Trust me, there are many good words to spread about education!

Four Pillars of Equity and Justice Education

Teaching as an act of Relevance

E & J work should be a part of every content area, grade level, and school community, regardless of racial demographic.

Teaching as an act of Reflection

E & J work is long, ongoing work that requires educators to look inside themselves and critically examine their own assumptions and biases each day.

Teaching as an act of Resistance

E & J work empowers students to think critically about the world around them and the role they play in creating a more just society.

Teaching as an act of Reverence

E & J work should encompass gravity, and gladness, celebration and seriousness, and joy and justice!

The Work

Elements of Justice Equity and Justice work includes:

Examining curriculum
Examining yourself
Finding resources
Connecting with other people and being in community
Seeking out information through conferences research, friends, and colleagues
Clearing space (making time) via thinking, reflecting, and connecting
Adjusting to what needs to be done
Asking for help
Continually learning, unlearning, and relearning
Seeking out concrete opportunities for change
